Artist's Description

I met Syd on a small-ship Alaskan Cruise doing what he does best, telling entertaining stories that educate. Because of his classic "old salt captain" appearance, I asked him if I could shoot a photo of him to paint a protrait some day. While taking off his glasses he quipped, "Should I look stoic or something?" I snapped my shot. I made the portrait many years later. When I learned of his passing, I donated the portrait to Cruise West who then donated it to an Alaskan Museum.
